[For Transparency: I got this bra for review purposes from Aikyou when I first reviewed it for the German blog Dessous Diary.]
When I got the choice to test one of the pretties by Aikyou I didn't have to think twice: This German brand quickly got one of my favourites regarding clean designs in the last few months. plus, Fair Trade Cotton, produced in Germany and Croatia - yay! I wear bralets and wirefree bras a lot but somehow I never got to try them on! So I was psyched to try the new "Stella" Bralet.
Stella is available in black, sizes XS, S, M and L for 69,90€ at the Aikyou Online Shop.
STELLA – Dekolleté-BH
The snippet above claims the bra is irresistible - well, yes that is right for me! I love the look of clean tops that don't give away their whole charme on the first glance but save some of their design for a closer look. I have to disagree with the snippet in one thing though: Although Aikyou call it a bra, I'd rather call it a bralet or top. It doesn't sport a back clasp or adjustable straps but is worn like a crop top you just slip on - A wonderfully pretty top.
Quality and Design
The fabric is amazingly soft, made from 92% cotton from certified organic cultivation and 8% Elasthan. The broad elastics that go around your underbust are sewn together with only one seam under your right armpit is very thin and soft - nothing cutting into your skin here!
The bias binding is made from slightly elastic fabrics too and is doubling as straps - a lovely design detail!
The whole look is sleek, straight and androgyn: no Padding, thin and soft fabrics and only a few different fabrics for the whole bralet.
The tulle is soft and not scratchy too, very thin but surprisingly sturdy. I'm still not putting the bralet in the washing machine on its own, rather putting it in a delicates bag - be on the safe side!
Fit and sizing
My measurements on these pictures (they were made a whole while ago) were underbust 72cm loose and 70cm tight, breast measurement 79,5cm. I am wearing size S in this bralet - for comparison I was wearing bra size 70B/65C (32B/30C) in most bras - needing very wide wires and shallow cups. The bralet is a nice fit, sitting comfortably and hugging me - not giving any support though (which is not necessary for me).
What I noticed is that the straps are really long. In my case it's a good thing because I often have the problem that straps are too short for me ;) But since they aren't adjustable this might well pose a problem if you need shorter straps. The straps are simply sewn to the band on the back though, so fixing the strap length shouldn't be a big deal if you have a tiny bit of sewing experience.
You can also see on the model pictures that the bralet is sitting rather low due to the long straps.
Comfortable, pretty, awesome as outerwear - have I mentioned comfortable already?
For 69,90€ you get a really pretty garment that's easy to combine. Wear a sheer top above, use it as a crop top, pair it with a high cut pair of pants or just throw on a leather jacket - Yeah I had to try that look for you ;)
If you are looking for sleek and androgyn underwear especially in the small bust range I think you'll love Aikyou!
So, I'm thinking this won't be the only piece of Aikyou in my wardrobe - at the moment I have my eye on this neckholder bra, the "Romy":
